Two separate narratives tell stories of life in Italy. In the first, set in 1930s Rome, Felice, an aging opera singer, is forced to quit singing and become an accountant. While he sleeps, he bursts out in fits of laughter. His suspicious wife, Marika, thinks she's being laughed at. The conflict that ensues could ruin their marriage. In the second piece, a kidnapping in contemporary Sicily is eerily similar to a crime that took place a century earlier.
