After many years of supporting her writer husband, Bill, Bertie Austin leaves her career when he finally sells a successful novel. With their daughter, the couple moves from New York City to suburban Connecticut, where Bill concentrates on transforming his novel into a play with the help of agent Lucinda Ford . Bored and increasingly jealous, Bertie begins flirting with Gar Aldrich, the actor who will take the lead in her husband's play.
