In this film based on a true story, Diana Longden is afflicted with a mysterious illness that keeps her in constant pain, barely able to walk. Her husband, Deric, devotes all his time and energy to caring for her while the couple tries to get a diagnosis. Deric, an aspiring writer, strikes up a friendship with novelist Aileen Armitage at a literary gathering. As the two grow closer, Diana contacts her husband's new friend and asks to meet her.
