Kenji lives in New York City and spends his time hanging out with Fabrizio and Balzac Man, both of whom harbor artistic dreams but are chronic underachievers. Death, who hovers around Kenji, tells him one day that he has 12 hours to live. He sets out to make the most of his remaining time and winds up having dinner with a famous artist and his girlfriend, Anouk, who steals Kenji's heart.
