Françoise Barnier works in a meat factory, earning barely enough to support herself and her two daughters. She refuses to take welfare, but, with the holidays approaching, she dreams of giving her daughters a nice meal. With this in mind, she steals meat from three different supermarkets. She is arrested and forced to go through court procedures with her lawyer's help. Her trial is examined in political circles, and the proceedings are lambasted in the press.
