This fact-based sports drama chronicles the life of famous pitcher Monty Stratton. Stratton, a star athlete, loses his leg when his hunting rifle misfires during a wilderness outing. Initially, Stratton's career is derailed, and he wallows in the depth of depression; however, with the encouragement of his loving spouse, Ethel, he decides to get back in the game. Equipped with a prosthetic leg, Stratton eventually works his way back to pitching in the minor leagues.
