While escorting two children from Milan to an orphanage in Sicily, a young police officer named Antonio slowly befriends the siblings. Without a parental figure after the arrest of their mother, young Rosetta and her brother, Luciano, are bitter about their situation, but Antonio gradually wins them over, and a surprisingly moving connection forms between the cop and his youthful companions.
