When Cuban mother Alicia leaves her husband, she travels to Havana with her young son, Samuel, to stay with her mother, Violeta . Although she is none too happy about the situation, Violeta eventually warms to having her grandson around, particularly when he becomes interested in her photography. Soon Violeta and Samuel bond over their love of the art, but instability, both with Alicia and with the Cuban government, threatens their happiness.
