Four Tibetan men are followed by documentarian Ulrike Koch as they make their yearly spring voyage to Lake Tsento where they gather raw salt for the coming season. The 2000-year-old ritual is a rite of passage for Tibetan men, and Koch is given a rare opportunity to document the three-month pilgrimage. Along the way, the saltmen engage in Tibetan song, prayer and chant, following the same traditions as countless Tibetan saltmen who have made the trip in the past.
