College students Larry and Patricia run their own radical, grassroots newspaper, which gets them kicked out of school. Dr. Jonathan Barnett, their cool professor, quits his job to protest the students' expulsion. Impressed by Jonathan's gesture, the students invite him to live in their communal hangout, where he begins a steady diet of LSD and is hailed as a guru. But, when he starts to believe he really is a spiritual leader, a cult is born.
