In 1965 Philadelphia, Del is enthralled by a television dance show and decides to try to sneak onto the set and steal a little air time. The show's producer and host, Perry Parker spots Del and, instead of ejecting him, pairs him with Vicky, the most popular girl dancer. The fan response is overwhelming, and Perry decides to turn Del into a star, but Del finds fame is not all he had imagined, and he misses his old friends and lifestyle.
