When the grounded Henry meets the freewheeling Lorabella, he is smitten and the two get married. But wedded bliss does not follow as Lorabella struggles to find her place in the union. After Lorabella suffers a miscarriage, the marriage is further strained. In search of her own freedom, Lorabella separates from Henry and takes a number of lovers, but still thinks about the man she left behind and whether she was really meant to be with him after all.
