Chen and Lily, a Chinese immigrant couple newly relocated to London, find different ways to keep their heritage alive while coping with culture shock and xenophobia. Lily struggles to teach her son traditions in spite of the conflicting lessons he receives at school. Chen works long hours as a waiter to provide for them, but makes a tragic mistake when his search for financial stability leads him to a gambling ring that includes members of a dangerous Triad gang.
