In this musical comedy, movie director John Gayle botches a production when his feud with a star French actress leads to her quitting and his being fired. In order to save his job, John tries to pass off carnival singer Mary as a French actress. The movie's producer agrees to cast Mary and quickly falls for her. However, when a jealous John argues with her, she accidentally reveals her true identity, endangering the picture again.
