This is the story of those who made their way into the far-flung slums of Shanghai, where they built a humble enclave before Japanese invaders chased them across the Pacific Ocean to eventual residence in the United States. Their heartbreaking trials and travels are revealed through archival footage, personal letters and modern-day interviews with two of these indomitable survivors.
