The vagabond Sadko aims to save the people of Novgorod by finding an enchanted bird of happiness called the Phoenix. After seeking assistance from the lovely princess, he takes a squadron of men on a trek where they face off against the maharajah, before winning the Phoenix in a duel of wits. The bird has magical powers that prove useful when Sadko is attacked by those wanting to steal the Phoenix from him.
