Baseball great Lou Gehrig retires and decides to buy a ranch in the small Western town of Rawhide with his sister, Peggy . Upon arrival, Lou and Peggy are pressured by Ed Saunders to join the protection association he runs. Lou refuses when he learns that ranchers can't make supply purchases unless they join with Saunders. When their ranch is attacked in retaliation and foreman Pop Mason is wounded, Lou and Peggy organize against Saunders.
