Quartet

Each installment of this composite of four stories by W. Somerset Maugham is full of curious British characters. A young tennis player journeys to Monte Carlo and engages in game-playing off the courts. A pianist finds out whether he has what it takes to succeed. In ''The Kite,'' a husband gives up his hobby for his new wife. ''The Colonel's Lady'' introduces us to a town gone crazy over a book of saucy poetry written by the colonel's demure wife.
