When a well-known play is produced in a small Polish town, Krzysztof, the leading man of the local acting troupe, sees a chance to give what could be his finest performance. Soon Krzysztof becomes overbearing with his many ideas about his role, while his wife, Anka, struggles with her waning theater career. These frustrations and quirks carry over into the couple's home, where Krzysztof and Anka regularly spar with one another.
