This biographical drama, based on the life of Herbert Biberman, follows the filmmaker as he gets blacklisted along with other prominent Hollywood figures. Although his wife, Gale Sondergaard, is a successful, Oscar-winning actress, Biberman is still singled out as a communist. Biberman is eventually jailed for refusing to answer questions about his alleged communist ties, and later decides to make a film about the plight of the worker without Hollywood funding.
