On the last day of 1999, pregnant Paloma and her hapless husband, Manuel, go to a party in a borrowed car that breaks down along the way, so they begin hitchhiking across Madrid. Unbeknown to them, Paloma's father had been intending to pick them up, but is now wandering the city as well, after having his car stolen by young Johnny . As the evening progresses, the characters cross paths, often barely missing each other.
