The larger-than-life story of Sam Houston, one of the founding fathers of Texas, begins with his early years fighting with Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812 and his drinking sprees with the Cherokee after he resigns the governorship of Tennessee. Along with Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, Houston emerges as a spirited advocate for Texas' independence from Mexico -- which culminates in the Battle of the Alamo.
