In pre-World War I France, debonair officer Armand de la Verne makes a bet that he can make the next woman who walks into the room fall in love with him. Since he has a reputation for sweeping women off their feet, de la Verne figures he'll easily win the wager. But it just so happens that he has met his match in the equally as captivating Marie-Louise Riviere, a beautiful divorcée who refuses to fall for de la Verne's seductive ways.
