In Madrid, a lawyer named Amparo investigates the accidental death of a young man who worked in a coal mine. With the help of a law student, Agustín, she discovers that the mine owners are guilty of corruption, safety violations, and other illegal practices, which makes them responsible for the miner's death. Amparo must pursue justice and confront the mine owners, while still grieving over another death, that of her husband.
