Infantry paratrooper Chick Allen summons his close friend, bumbling entertainer Hap Smith, to Fort Belding to assist in putting on a revue. Explaining that commanding officer Gen. Timmons dislikes and bans ''amateur'' shows, Chick believes his and Hap's act will restore the general's faith in soldier entertainment. Hap agrees to perform under the assumed identity of Dogface Dolan, but soon finds that playing a soldier is harder than he imagined.
