Indian teenager Makbul becomes increasingly fascinated with the work his father does as an elephant handler. Against the wishes of his mother, Makbul leaves school to apprentice with his father. Eventually, Makbul is given a newborn calf named Vikrama to train and nurture, but as the need for elephant labor wanes, the animal is put up for sale. Unfortunately, the separation has devastating consequences for both Makbul and his elephant.
