As a young woman, Frida Kahlo is severely injured in a bus accident, causing her persistent pain that lingers for most of her life. Still, Kahlo channels that anguish into her painting, becoming a celebrated artist, both in Mexico and abroad. She marries fellow painter Diego Rivera, but their rocky relationship also causes her grief. In addition to her art, Kahlo has a passion for political causes, even forming a friendship with Leon Trotsky .
