Upon his release from a mental institution, schizophrenic Gregorio takes his own life and extinguishes his loved ones' cautious hopes for his recovery. In the wake of Gregorio's death, his best friend, Manuel, receives a weathered box containing a series of bizarre messages. As Manuel struggles to decipher their meaning, he leaps headlong into an affair with his late friend's lover, Tania -- an affair that began long before Gregorio's death.
