Fresh out of jail, young Puerto Rican-American Miguel returns to his family home in a poor section of Harlem, N.Y., with intentions of cleaning up his act and quitting his street gang. But his father considers him a hood, and Miguel, wanting to please his dad, hopes to come into enough money to move the family out of the slums. Miguel fights the temptation to turn back to crime, while also trying to win the heart of lovely illegal immigrant Sarita .
