In this adaptation of Dostoyevsky's novel, set in 1980s Finland, Antti Rahikainen is a former law student who works in a slaughterhouse but is haunted by the death of his fiancée, who was killed by a drunk driver. Seeking revenge, Antti finds the man and shoots him dead, but there is a witness to the murder -- Eeva, a young woman. Eeva can't bare to turn in Antti, though, and she instead begins a doomed love affair with the murderer, who is now a fugitive.
