Choukri, known as Chouchou, travels clandestinely from North Africa to France in the hope of finding his missing nephew. There, members of a Paris parish give him a place to stay and find him employment at a psychiatrist's office. By night he goes to a cabaret where he becomes a transvestite, works as a waitress and meets and falls in loves with Stanislas . In the midst of a whirlwind romance, Chouchou must evade a racist and suspicious inspector.
