After being dumped, brooding romantic Alex nearly kills his friend Thomas, who has been conducting an affair with his girlfriend. The despondent Alex then wanders aimlessly through Paris. Along the way, he overhears a suicidal girl, Mireille, breaking up with her boyfriend over an intercom. Later he meets Mireille at a party, and as the night wears on, the two lonely young people begin to fall for each other.
