Rendered jobless by the American war on drugs in his native Bolivia, Freddy crosses the border to Argentina, where he gets a job as a short-order cook in a restaurant run by Enrique, who is by turns cruel and compassionate. Scraping by on his meager wages, Freddy witnesses the casual racism of his customers, who regard other South Americans as inferior. His only friend is Rosa, a waitress from Paraguay who is also there illegally.
