In response to the unimaginable horrors of recent wars in the former Yugoslavia, Italian experimental artists Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi, who assemble movies from found footage, sought out non-professional film shot in the Balkans before the Nazi invasion. Their eerie, narrative-free, silently political motion picture features ghostly reels of smiling villagers, innocent children and German soldiers frolicking in verdant meadows and in glistening oceans as if on holiday.
