A young woman of African heritage, Cassandra Jones grows restless at home in Toronto with her criminally inclined brother, Patrick, and her lottery-playing mother, Mary, and departs to work on a farm in Quebec. Attempting to adjust to her rural surroundings, Cassandra becomes intrigued by her new coworker, Abdoulaye, a man who has relocated from Mali, and struggles to deal with cultures different from her familiar urban environment.
