Mehdi, whose teacher father has been arrested, lives with his grandfather and mother . To make ends meet, the impoverished grandfather works and sells off the family furniture. At school, Mehdi becomes a go-between for his teacher, Marzouk, carrying romantic letters. As 1981's religious period of Ramadan continues, Mehdi becomes friends with Malika, a rebellious teenage girl involved in demonstrations.
